OVER $50,000 RAISED FOR 2008

2008 TRUCK CONVOY
ANOTHER YEAR…ANOTHER AMAZING JOURNEY

On Saturday, September 20, 2008 the World’s Largest Truck Convoy for Special Olympics took place at the Fairgrounds in Paris, Ontario. With a convoy of 75 trucks, drivers from all over southern Ontario took part in the 120 km route in support of Special Olympics. The Southern Ontario division of the Truck Convoy has been taking place since 2005 and has raised in excess of $185,000. The 2008 Truck Convoy continued its success with over $50,000 raised!

The Truck Convoy is a gathering of members from the trucking industry showing their support of Special Olympics. It is a unique one-day celebration where Law Enforcement makes special dispensation by escorting the convoy on a pre-determined route.  Special thanks to: OPP Sgt. Ben McIntyre London Highway Safety Division for attending the event again this year, ensuring the safety of everyone involved and allowing the Convoy to travel expeditiously from the Fairgrounds in Paris to the 401 (Putnam Road) and back.  Thanks also to officers of Brant County and Middlesex OPP.

Special Olympics community including athletes, families, friends, colleagues, Law Enforcement officers, together with the organizations, companies and agencies that make up the trucking industry greeted participants at the Paris Fairgrounds. A celebration – picnic, barbeque, awards ceremony, family entertainment, prize draws, etc. were held to recognize participants, raise additional funds and thank them for their support.  Special Olympics athletes had the opportunity of a life time to ride up front in participating trucks.

Sincere thanks and appreciation to all the truck drivers and their family members who participated in this year’s Convoy. The truck driver’s are the ones that make this exciting and unique fundraiser what it is today! As well, special thanks to all the volunteers, the community and the generous support of sponsors for their kindness and continued support. Confirmed sponsors already for 2009 include drumbo Transport and Gavin Transport who provided this year's lunch to the drivers.

Lead Truck honours went to Brian Hilton of MacKinnon Transport who raised $10,792.52! Congratulations to Brian Hilton for taking it upon himself to raise funds for a worthy cause.  Second place went to Doug Fisher of Transport N Service and the Third spot was held by Stephane Gauthier of J.R.
